Greyish

I've been feeling sort of greyish and out-of-sorts lately; not depressed, but just not all there.

So, things that have made me happy recently:

  • Scott Westerfeld posted a picture of his new protagonist today and EEEE! She is Asian! Or at least I think she is...

  • TechKnitting continues to be awesome with a nifty way to cast on a little i-cord loop to start circular projects. I marvel at her brain and am now dying to make a baby hat from top down.

  • The weather, which is warm and sunny and beautiful.

  • Daylight savings starts on Sunday! More daylight, oh thank you!

Those hats are so cute! They remind me that I need to start thinking of some projects to make for Dulaan (http://www.nwkniterati.com/movabletype/archives/MossyCottage/001682.html#contribute), which I want to contribute to this year. I've made enough luxury presents for myself and others; time to make some warm and useful things.

Oh, Dulaan is really cool! I should do that, especially considering that I make so many scarves that I am looking for people to give them too!

She sure looked Asian to me! Though I had always assumed that with the possible exception of the renegades in the woods, all or most of his characters were probably mixed-race and the previous covers did not reflect that. (I don't know if that's actually in the text, or just my projection.)

TechKnitter completely boggles me. I mean, some of the stuff that she explains I know (ex, how the stitches lie, why dropping a stitch down and hooking it back up works), but she does these really awesome things, like the alternative to the disappearing loop cast-on.

I didn't know you read these!! YAY!! Did you do a review? I love reading your reviews. Personally, I really loved the first two. I'm at arms length with the third one, partly, I think, because so much has happened so fast and also because I LOVED Zane and Westerfeld broke my heart.

I was all prepared for it to be over so when I heard about the fourth book, read on Wikipedia of all things, and that they were setting it in Japan with a new heroine I was absolutely thrilled. New blood, new adventures. YAY!

I have indeed! I think I've obsessively read most of Westerfeld's books, with the exception of some of his older, non-YA ones.
