Buffy 7x14 First Date
So
tigermwd showed me the wildfeed for Cavalry tomorrow, and I am so psyched! Will not spill, but suffice to say, all the good things I've been looking forward to ever since I've been spoiled are finally starting to happen. Squee!!
I also managed to get First Date on someone's computer yesterday and have already watched it twice now!
Buffy 7x14 First Date
Spuffy! Lots of Spuffy! So just as I figured, Buffy and Spike decided to take out the chip. And Buffy made that huge speech to Giles on how Spike can be a good man, which seems to suggest that Spike's shiny new soul indeed got him the girl, like he wanted. Then there were wonderfully nice little scenes about Buffy's date with Principal Wood. I love the way the two interact, with the many meaningful silences and the currently awkward conversation. I also love Spike's small thing on the crypt for two with a white picket fence. So there was wonderful awkwardness when the two bumped into each other in the hallway, including Buffy's embarrassment about her skimpy shirt. Which seemed a bit odd, considering the fact that for most of season six, Spike had probably been seeing her more without the clothes than with. Then there was the silent comforting/consoling bit after the fight with the demon girl, including jealous glares from the principal. And the wonderful part on the couch, when Buffy tells Spike that he can't go yet, not because he's needed in the fight, but because she's not ready to be without him yet. I think
anniesj is right, and soon Buffy's going to have to face a choice between normal life/Principal Wood and her Slayer life/Spike. I'm pretty sure right now that she's in love with Spike, and that Spike still loves her, but I can see ME throwing us a few things to get in the way, including a very probably attempt to kill Spike by Wood and hopefully much angst for both Spike and Buffy. But I'm still not sure how I want Spike to react. I don't want this to be Buffy and Angel all over again, because you know? Even after watching season 2, it was really kind of boring, the whole huge star-crossed lover thing. I loved Spuffy because it was disturbing and raw and dark, and I think it still can be while being a working relationship. As long as they keep Spike snarky and not purely capital-G-Good like Angel. I think that they are going the right way, with the small moments between the two and the partnership, as opposed to the longing looks of B/A. But being a viewer trained by Joss, I do hope there will be a little more angst ahead. I'm not sure how I'd like for it to go though. Hopefully this time, it'll be on Buffy's end, since we've had several seasons worth of Angst!Spike with regard to his apparently undying love for the Slayer. And I really don't want to see him do a whole repentence, I'm not good enough for the girl thing. In fact, I can see him doing that, then never bringing it up because he feels too guilty to even lay it on Buffy that small bit, like the hallway scene when he tells her he's not being heroic, that he doesn't mind, even though he does, and the couch scene, when he very quietly, very simply volunteers that he should go. He seems to feel so unworthy almost that he doesn't even dare offer himself as a choice.
More things I liked:
- Giles' horribly bloody, Hush-like flashcards
- the Cantonese potential, who is probably my favorite one right now
- Andrew and the microwave of doom
- the sheer freakiness of Jonathan, who sounded exactly like Warren
- Anya's "I'm going to pee" comment
- Andrew in general. I can't help it. I like geeks.
- the beautiful understated creepiness of the final scene: "What do we say?" "Thank you" Wood needs to go to the dark side! How great would that be? A vengeful Wood, who Buffy may have feelings for, going full on after Spike, who Buffy also has lingering feelings for. Please let this be episode seventeen!
- Xander's "Gay me now!" speech
Things I didn't like so much:
- Kennedy/Willow. It seems much too fast, still.
- Xander dating still seems odd... And didn't like the girl much, but that was forgiven because, hey, evil demon spawn, how likeable is that?
And is it just me, or was Giles' entire speech on how there was no more time for quips and dates because things were going to get Serious addressed directly at the viewers? I'm thinking, big things happening very very soon! Also, Andrew/Dawn = Spike/Buffy much? With Andrew calling Dawn a peach, his leather jackets, Andrew and Spike looking for redemption and being the First's bitches, and Dawn being a kind of watered down Buffy? Hee hee. Sorry.
And now back to reading 2 Esdras. Ugh. Ezra the prophet was definitely on crack. Who sees eagles with twelve wings and three heads? How in the world is that supposed to symbolize warring kingdoms anyway? Also, it's Tuesday! Why in the world is the laundry room full? Must check for dryers....
