Hrm.....
So remember when I said I had the dorkiest rats ever?
Apparently I have the sneakiest rats ever.
The cage door sprung open while I was sleeping, but when I investigated, ratties were still curled up inside, all snuggly and asleep. But there were lots and lots and lots of crumbs by the door. I shrugged it off and figured that they'd somehow managed to chuck stuff out of the cage, which they do.
When I went over to feed them after work today, I discovered that the bag of rat food by their cage has quite a few holes chewed in it.
The sneaky rats crawled out, snuck lots of food, probably ate it right at the door, and then crawled back in to go to sleep!

Rats are like cats
But once the bag of food sitting open on the floor in the kitchen, the evil kitten doesn't mess with it. Even if the food is run out. She knocked the bag over once, but I think that was accidental clumsiness -- she is very clumsy -- rather than intent. She certainly hasn't shredded it the way she does when it's in a grocery bag.
Pets are weird. I think the kitten is an alien.
Re: Rats are like cats
Ooooh, is your kitten one of those ignore all expensive toys in favor of the paper bag ones? My rats are too.
Re: Rats are like cats
The kitten is not a smart cat, though. At one point she was managing to open my backpack to get inside, but she didn't actually learn how to do it -- she was just pawing at it until her claws caught in the zipper, and this has not been repeated. ALL things are toys, including the older cat's tail, the refigerator, any boxes I have lying around, my hairbobs, power cords, and the remains of dismembered fur mice. Plastic bags are just as good as paper ones, and funnier for me, because she gets herself stuck in one and runs around the apartment with a plastic bag around her middle, often with stuff like my lunch tupperware still in the bag.
