Whoa
Matrix movie blew my mind.
No coherent comments here. Just... whoa. I was so scared in the beginning that they were going to be all slow and not at all like the first one, with all the Zion scenes, the sappy romances, and the Council scenes. It reminded me eerily of Star Wars Episode 1 and 2... politics and debate, which I think definitely slowed those two movies down to their detractment. But no. Sped up very quickly with some kickass action scenes that somehow just got cooler and cooler. The entire Neo/One thing gets cooler, and and and... new agents! I think the Matrix trilogy (depending on how Revolutions is) will kick the asses of the Harry Pottery series by far, all six Star War movies, and even my beloved LotR. Just... so much to think about after each one!
And the action scenes? Watching them feels like flying. Once you scrape your jaw off the floor repeatedly, that is.

Re: Abhorsen (from a different entry) how would you compare it to Sabriel?

Oh yes... I think that's the problem with LotR, HP and Star Wars, the other Big Movies of Our Generation (TM). They're all based on something we already know. We basically all know the story to HP, and considering the way the director of the first two has been doing things, watching the movies doesn't bring in new knowledge that wasn't in the books. LotR, again, there are some things different, but we all know how it's going to end and what's going to happen. Same with Star Wars. They're all familiar universes, while the Matrix just kind of snuck up on my back in '99 and blew me (and my poor little brain) right out of the water. And the story's still going, and I have no idea at all where it's going! It's a lovely feeling.
I actually haven't read Abhorsen yet... I know I didn't enjoy Lirael quite as much as I liked Sabriel. I thought Lirael was too whiny at first and Sam wasn't very interesting to me either, while Sabriel had the creepiness of the Dead and the mysteries of the Charter to keep me going. I hope Abhorsen is very good though! And I hope Sabriel shows up...

Could I excerpt or link your Gaimen quote? I really like it...

I hate it when I buy books and end up disliking them (especially when they're for a long plane flight!).
Could I excerpt or link your Gaimen quote? I really like it...
Sure, feel free ^_^. Gaiman's quote, after all, not mine. I like it a lot too... summarizing how I feel about reading and fantasy and all sorts of things like that.
