Happy list

I've been a bit doom and gloom lately, partially because of the weather and partially because AIIEEE GRAD SCHOOL it is taking over my life!

So here are some things that make me happy:

  • While I think tucking pants into boots is a travesty, I have finally succumbed and bought super-cute rain boots! Of course, now that I have them, it has not rained... Still, once it does, I will be impervious to puddles! And rain! And hail!

  • Netflix finally found Kino's Journey v. 3 and shipped it to me.

  • Yotsuba&!

  • Last because it is the bestest and makes me so happy: [livejournal.com profile] ciderpress is starting an Asian Women Blog Carnival!

This carnival is intended to focus on Asian women. The definition of Asian, within the scope of this carnival, includes people from East Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, North Asia, South-East Asia, Far East, Middle East, Near East and people of Asian descent living in non-Asian countries. The definition of women, within the scope of this carnival, includes transwomen and cisgendered women.

For the first edition, which I will be hosting at [info]yennenga thanks to [info]delux_vivens's kind offer, there is no specific theme. I would like to highlight the diversity of Asian women and topics regarding identity in Asian majority and Asian minority cultures. Submissions can range from feminism, representation, culture, history, work, activism, beauty, health, sexuality, politics, economics, philosophy, class, education, religion, how we identify and relate to other PoC groups, personal stories etc.

    Submit posts for the carnival!

Or if we only had time to actually watch the disc of Doctor Who we have and return it, so as to get Kino.

One thing as a desert person I do not really understand about rainboots: are you supposed to wear rainboots all day? Are they supposed to go over your shoes? Do you wear the boots outside and take other shoes to change into?

I've been wearing rain boots nearly every day for a month, and yet do not know the answer to this question! Because I'm in Japan, so I take them off when I get to the office. I've been pondering what I would do with the boots in the US, because you seriously don't want to wear them all day.

This change was instituted purely to foil you.

We all need bright rain boots for dreary days, which are made for whimsy. Awesome.

And, yes, grad school is supposed to eat your brain.

There are not enough words to express the joys of Yotsuba&! I am treasuring my scans and saving them for some future bleak day because they are so precious to me.

Believe me, they hold up to re-reading multiple times, and even close reading.
