ARGH my Tivo is now hooked up to a cable box, and it changed channels improperly and thereby IS NOT RECORDING SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.

This is a tragedy of epic proportions, especially considering how much hair-pulling and swearing went on yesterday when I tried to set it up.

Stupid cable box. I HATE YOU.

OH NOES.

My TiVo used to do this all the time. Are you using the infrared blasters? I switched to a serial cable and presto! The problem was solved.

Is it possible to switch to serial cable if your cable box doesn't have the serial cable input? Like, is there some other connector thing to get?

I hate the stupid infrared things so much.

Err. I don't think so. Maybe you can ask your cable company to change your box to one with a serial port?

My tivo, somewhere in the setup menus, asks if I have cable, and asks which provider. Does your tivo do the same, because that might fix it?

It does, but that's actually part of the Guided Setup. The actual channel changing part is because it's a cable box, so Tivo has to get the changing channel signal to it somehow. Since my cable box doesn't have the serial port to directly connect, I have to use the infrared things. Unfortunately, because it's not a direct connection, it messes up at times, which means the channel doesn't change, which means it thinks it's on the right channel at the right time, but it's actually not.
