I was going to write up a big depressing post on work, but instead:

Squee! Johnny Depp was nominated for Best Actor!!! Keisha Castle-Hughes for Whale Rider!!!

Am I mean and petty when I am kind of glad Last Samurai and Cold Mountain didn't get that much?

The others were more expected, although there was a lot more of Seabiscuit than I thought.

Sadly, I have no idea what's going on with the primaries. I am a bad citizen. But the Oscars, see, the Oscars excite me ;).

Personally, I smiled with glee when The Littlest Samurai failed to get much - especially Best Actor.

This may make up for Gladiator, but probably not (I hated Gladiator).

I liked Gladiator. However, a big part of the reason was the combined talents of Ridley Scott and Hans Zimmer. I love Scott's visual style and I love a lot of Zimmer's soundtracks (minus Tears of the Sun. Euw.).

Joaquin Phoenix definitely managed to creep me out in his scenes with Connie Nielsen and, while Russell Crowe isn't my favorite, this was before he was "RUSSELL CROWE!". Because of that, I was able to better lose myself in the character and the story. I had a much harder time with Master and Commander. I kept trying to watch the movie while thoughts of "Wow, Russell looks like crap on toast as a blond" and "Wonder how hard he had to hit the bars to get that puffy look back?" kept flitting in and out of my head.
