Wow, I finished!

That was a lot of infodump! In fact, I am certain that vol. 12 was basically just one loooong infodump.

I did like the ending and the resolution; I hadn't quite realized just how much I wanted to see Light's calm shatter and to see him get his come-uppance. That was quite satisfying, particularly when Ryuk turned on him. I also liked that Mello got to play a role in the endgame, and his death has retroactively made me like him better. And the Mello + Near = L equation was nice too.

Other than that, I don't know. I did grow quite fond of Near toward the end, but the series was never one that engaged me emotionally. Also, I kept wanting Misa to not be stupid, and yet... Sigh. At least the announcer woman was better, though of course she dies as well.

Mostly I am left with vast amusement at the lengthy explanations of Light's thoughts, Near's thoughts, Light's thoughts on Near's thoughts, Near's thoughts on Light's thoughts on Near's thoughts, ad nauseum.

Also, I want to see them do the iocaine powder scene from Princess Bride.

Pretty much my advice to everyone who gets into Death Note was simply to stop reading after volume 7 (L's death). I felt like the pace and tension never caught back up.

Certainly, I lost interest pretty quickly after that.

I actually did ok with the later volumes, but I think that's because I took a year-long break between v. 7 and v. 8, so I was sort of able to think of 8-12 as a sequel or a new series or something. But yeah. I miss L. I like Near, but I still miss L.
