Loot!
I came to Taiwan with a fairly empty suitcase stuffed with shoes I planned on leaving here and twelve bars of soap for my mom (she took one look at my pile of soap and started laughing. "Meimei brought back twelve too! I have enough for two years!"). I am leaving, if all goes well tonight, with a suitcase stuffed to the gills that probably weighs as much as me. Possibly not, though, considering how much I have eaten here.
On our last day in Taipei, Rachel and I managed to see a poster for a store called Moe! Moe! located in some random alley. When we went in, we discovered four floors of anime and manga paradise, including a floor dedicated to cosplay. I think most of our reactions consisted of: "EEEEEEEE!!!!!" *flail hands* "EEEEEEEE!!!! Looklooklook! EEEEEEEE!!!"
I now have: Emma Victorian Guide, Shirley by Mori Kaoru, the Ribon no Kishi manga by Tezuka Osamu, one knitting book, one book of cute crocheted critters, Rose of Versailles on DVD, a Chinese historical drama on the advance toward the republic (1890s, alas, too late for Not-So-Secret Project, but still helpful for visuals), a Nick Cave CD, a Michel Ocelot DVD, and Yuki Kaori's manga on Beethoven in Japanese (all the others are in Chinese, except the Nick Cave CD and the DVD).
This does not include random anime and manga figurines, merchandise and other such miscellany, food (chewy milk candy with nuts, random Pocky, chocolate-covered mochi for coworkers), or new clothes.
And now, I am off to finish the Death Note movie before leaving for the airport!

Hee!! I think I vaguely remember those from being a kid. Could I look over those at Mariposa or something? The only reason why I didn't buy more manga at the airport was because Goong didn't have vol. 2 on the shelf.

In short, I was rather weirded out by the changes made. And I'm still weirded out by live people playing manga/anime characters, even if they look as alike as live-action L and manga L.
Ryuk was cool though.
