Le sigh. The sister person and B leave tonight, and me and Rachel must leave tomorrow.
We have not yet had Portuguese-style egg tarts, which is a horrific oversight that must be corrected forthwith. We have also not yet gone to Xi Men Ding, a fashionable shopping district that is bustling with people, stalls, and food, but hopefully we will be able to do that before the sister and B must head off to the airport.
On the other hand, I have had about four separate instances of crab; gone to Ding Tai Fong, home of the best soup dumplings and chicken soup and most other dumplings ever; had ten little egg cakes shaped like eggs, fresh off the griddle on the streets of Hsinchu; eaten candied strawberries on a stick while attempting to outrun the sudden downpour and trying not to stab myself in the mouth; and in general eaten about three times my body weight. I think one of the best meals has been a multi-course Japanese feast, which included black sesame agedashi tofu, only with the tofu replaced by some black sesame thing, along with the insane seafood extravaganza my aunt cooked up yesterday.
I am very happy, and will probably be full for the next month.

Total aside: my son was looking over my shoulder at your icon, and asked "what is that?" And I said "Tha's Oyceter's icon." And he said "Is that a moon?" And I said "..." Forgive me: can you explain your icon to me (which I like) so that I can explain it to him (he's three, and remembers these things)?

It's something called a teruterubouzu, which is this little Japanese charm to bring back sunny skies. Mine is a little stuffed keychain version I found in a random Asian department store instead of the usual tissue wad that I just thought was cute and photographed way back when.

I even found teruteru stationery and bought that up happily!

Update: both Spousal Overunit and Son #1 actually knew the teruteru song. Spousal Overunit knew the words and in a separate interview, Son #1 knew the tune but drifted off after a few words (he must have picked it up in daycare). Between the two of them, I hope to have a complete performance at some point soon.
We might be going to Japan in the fall, and if we do, I am sooo buying some teruteru stationary alonsg with proper pens, and notebooks, and...and...).
Thanks again!
