Why do most "Connor" icons have depressing sayings on them that imply that Connor was completely messed up and could never be saved (unless Angel swooped in and rewrote his life from day one)?
Fandom seem to treat him like the poster boy for the irredeemably f*cked up teenager. And he really wasn't. I still prefer my alterno-world where Angel knocks him out in the sporting good store and takes him to the hospital and spends the next year nursing him back to emotional health with some good parental love.
Or the alterno-world where Angel keeps him in the Hyperion after the summer of '02 and gives him the tough love at home so they fight the Beast together.
Or the alterno-world where Connor comes upon Angel while going to college in Los Angeles and they become friends without Connor knowing it's his real dad, and then he finds out and gets his memory back and there's some serious consequences, but eventually they start a healthy grown-up father-son relatioship complete with father-son bad-guy butt kicking 'cause Connor still has his super powes.
Or the alterno-world where Connor never went to Quortoth and was raised by a loving dad he resembled in everything except hair.
Hah! I love the poster who responded in the comments that they thought it was a girl at first. He does have the pretty going for him.
Sure thing... I thought the fourth one (the "sweet" one) and some of the b&w VK ones were particularly of the pretty.
I dunno... I suppose it's the popular image of him? Maybe like Faith of S3 and 4 (although I wasn't around for the fan reaction to her back then).
I think he was a rather messed up teenagerk, but it would have been rather hard not to be, given Holtz and given Quartoth, but the irredeemable is questionable, given that very few people have proven to be so in the Jossverse...
But then, I also loved the ending of Home because it was so ambiguous (kind of like how I think of Buffy's jump in the Gift)... Angel is being incredibly selfless, and yet completely selfish and taking the easy way out and messing up everyone else in the process.
