My copy of Moomin: The Complete Tove Jansson Comic Strip - Book One (http://www.amazon.com/Moomin-Complete-Jansson-Comic-Strip/dp/1894937805/sr=1-1/qid=1163630086/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-1561671-7102568?ie=UTF8&s=books) arrived last night, plus the copy of Miss Buncle's Book that I'd requested via ILL came in today. Whee!!
November tastes like Lapsang Souchon and Lagavulin to me (Lagavulin is a single malt Scotch from the Island Of Islay and actually resembles Lapsang Souchon, if you haven't had it).
Cold weather always makes me hungry for Extreme Ginger Cookies and Little Sleezy Cheese Guys--the latter are a odd but addictive cheddar cheese, paprika, mustard, butter biscuit best served hot. My roommate, who I adored and have lost touch with, always made me them for me on Sunday mornings to cheer me up.
One of the most beautiful and wonderful smelling flowers I've ever seen is the caracalla bean--its flowers are shaped like purple and white orchids. It's a climbing bean vine. I saw it first at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.
Would you like a Cain and Riff drawing? It's all gray and cold and blustery here and I am in a very gothic drawing mood. Let me know if you'd like one and any flower or crack additions, if you'd like.
Last night at work, one of my co-workers (male) insisted that winter was great because "People wear good clothes - ..." And then got embarrassed that he'd just said that, and started juggling to cover it up.
I love getting cozy and baking. And listening to more folk music and less rock-and-roll. And once December hits, loading up my iPod with Christmas music.
And seeing my family, because we are loud and talky and annoying and I love them.
I am jealous of your family. Well, ok, actually I like my family when I interact with them as a group. It's only when I'm alone with my mom when things go really bad.
Also, I will see my sister next week YAY!
I have this month's Cook's Illustrated and I am so excited about the baking recipes! Molasses cookies!
My organically correct food co-op had turkey giblets today. I love turkey liver, and the hearts and gizzards are okay. They only have turkey giblets available sporadically.
The American chattering classes are being (inadvertantly) funnier than usual about politics.
Happy: - books! Especially when I accidentally find a book I've never heard of and love it. -husband (except when he is being annoying) - autumn - so pretty! - friends - friends - seeing family
What I love about November? it has my sister's birthday. that's about it. ;)
But I love winter. First of all, for me four seasons is the right order of things, and spring is so much sweeter when it comes after long winter. Second, it has a lot of nice things in itself - sparking snow and skiing, and ice-rinks and light frost and igloos, and cuddling at home under blankets with mulled wine, and New Year...
Alas, you have already seen the Edna fic, which made me laugh so much.
Did you end up aheming Ouran? Try watching the first episode sometime and see if you like it. (I don't want to be annoying by saying "Watch it! Watch it!" but it is a show that's very much aimed at fans. And it does make me happy.)
Avatar makes me happy too, though S2 more the S1; S1 can be a slog at times.
I love November in Tucson; it's warm but not hot, the sun shines most days, the mountains light up pink and purple at sunset, and the flowerbeds are full of cheerful bedding plants. All that, and Thanksgiving and good new books too!
I'm bored and depressed too, so I'll tell both of us about the thing that probably makes me happiest: my cat. Not too original, I know, but I adore him. He's enormous and cranky and a little dumb, and very fuzzy, and he purrs a lot and trots around after me with his tail in the air when he thinks I'm going to feed him, exactly as he did fifteen years ago when he weighed 1/2 lb. and 2/3 of that was ears.
November--the smell of piles of damp, fallen leaves. Cool wind. Wearing cashmere sweaters. Sleeping under a down comforter with the window open. Curling up with a book, a cup of hot tea with honey, and a quilt over my lap.
I have to say that I love November, just because it's my birthday month, and I love my birthday. However, I do understand your feeling of boredom and depression. I usually reserve that for February.
I don't mind winter time. My favorite thing is to bundle myself up in piles of blankets and stuffed animals while a blizzard is going on outside. I feel very warm and safe then. Since there's no blizzards in Southern CA (I'd be rather worried if there was), I like the cooler temperatures. Fighting the feeling of hot stickiness all summer long sort of wears me out. I love the cooler temps, but I'm not freezing. I'm just comfy.
Happy? Well, I recently bought myself three new Gund bears. They're super cute and cuddly. I'm thrilled to pieces right now with them.

That reminds me, we were supposed to meet up some time, weren't we?
Also, I have the episodes for Avatar sitting around, but haven't gotten around to watching them.

However, I'm going to Powell's this weekend, and my birthday is in a week, so these are good things. :)

As for November, I like the leaves changing color, and curling up inside on a cold day with a good book and a mug of something hot to drink.

Psst, is Mariposa still on? It feels like that would be the perfect place for hot cider/hot cocoa and a good book.

I have ahemed Ouran! I am planning on watching it soon (as soon as my mother leaves), especially now that my sound card is working again.

And I love snow, leaves turning color, bundling up with sweaters and scarves (that you've knit yourself and cuddling up to a cup of hot coffee.
Sorry you're going through so much stress. :(

I'm knitting scarves like mad for the holiday season, but probably won't even finish in time. Oh well.
The stress... argh.
