Princess Tutu, ep. 19-22

I am using my on crack icon because I feel it is entirely called for.

Wow. WTF?! Also: BBQ! and OMG! for good measure ;).

First off, I squee whenever they do something like having Hermia dress up as a donkey to play Ms. Bottom to deliver love letters because she secretly pines for Lysander. Hee!

And then... uh. Wow.

Talk about metanarrative!

I'm not actually sure what to say! Ahiru notices that people just seem to be born out of the gate! One of Drosselmeyer's distant relatives is named "Autor"! Fakir is Drossemeyer's descendent! Fakir can write stories that come true (sometimes)! There are Book Men! They cut off Drosselmeyer's hands much like someone cut off the feet of the girl with the red shoes! ZOMGWTFBBQ?!?!?!?! This is awesome! It is so awesome! They're all in a story and they know it and no one can leave or really enter the town because it's not real! And then Tutu gets taken away by Drosselmeyer to the gear-world outside of the story, except there might be story outside of that too, because I don't know where the Book Men come from, and of course all of Fakir's books have the end torn out!

My brain hurts.

And also I love Autor so hard for being the Minor Character who knows he's a Minor Character and is So Bitter OMG!

I feel like there was a fairytale or two somewhere that involved hand-chopping in addition to the foot-chopping red shoe story, but now I can't remember what it is.

And off-topic, except in brainbreakage: a few times in the series, we get shots of people reading (Drosselmeyer's unfinished-fairytale-book Prince und Rabe or other books, all in German); I haven't caught them all, but in one is Rue reading a Prince und Rabe scene in which a mysterious-old-man-who-is-totally-Drosselmeyer-self-inserted tells the Prince (Mythos) that Tutu can't be his Princess, while another has Fakir reading German literary criticism on fairytales. Which is, like, meta eating its own tail. (I totally first typed "tale".)

Which has the added goodness of looking like he's dipping the quill in his wrist to write with blood!

... I'm alone here, aren't I?

Now you're beginning to understand about the meta-meta-narrative that makes this show absolutely brilliant. But just you wait. I certainly can't wait until you post your thoughts on the last episodes.

Yeah, I lent the first four disks to a co-worker, who only recently returned them, and I didn't want to buy 5 & 6 while I didn't have the first part around to rewatch, but now this is all making me want to finish off the series (again) oh so badly...

There will be many more anime series that we can burble over, I'm sure. :-) And I look forward to it!
