Last Exile, ep. 05-08
And now, we get to learn more about the good ship Silvana.
I keep getting these vague twinges of annoyance that Claus is almost always the one who makes the correct choice, even though he's originally portrayed as somewhat out of it in the beginning. Even though Lavie's the practical one, she's the one who ends up being devil's advocate most of the time. I was also irritated that in the end, Claus was the one who wanted to fight and Lavie was the one who fainted.
I am further annoyed that cool XO lady does not get to act all cool and XO-like. Instead, she is maternal and nice. Sigh.
At least Tatiana remains nifty.
So yes, am having some slight gender issues.
Alvis is the normal cute urchin character, though I like that she isn't too twee. That screaming scene in the hangar was awesome.
No real comments on the casino episode.
Every time they talk about the Guild, I think back on Dune and imagine giant sandworm people or something! Lord Dio also vaguely reminds me of Dilandau from Escaflowne, albeit without the crazy screams of "Burninate!"
Still waiting for the women to do cool things.

As far as the secondary characters go, LE does this thing where it will focus on one of them for a couple of episodes, and then switch the focus to another in the next couple of episodes. You'll see what I mean. Anyway, there is more character development ahead for various people.

I adore the color scheme and the art. My current favorite character is Dio. He gets some more screen time and is wonderfully androgynous and wicked but not.
