Veronica Mars 2x18-2x19

2x18 I Am God

I went on a several week hiatus from VMars because of the trailers for this episode. Way to go, UPN! Honestly, though, the whole "people are talking to Veronica from beyond the grave!" thing sounded incredibly stupid. It played out in a way that reminded me a little of COnnie Willis' Passage, for some reason -- I kept trying to find a rational, non-supernatural reason because the universe of the show is not a supernatural one. It seems like they're passing it more off as Veronica's subconscious doing the work, but it still bugs me.

I squeed when Veronica got into Stanford, partly out of joy for her, and partly out of the odd frisson of excitement of thinking that a fictional character would be in the Bay Area. I am a dork.

I'm guessing that Angie's GPA increase will do something bad to Veronica's Stanford aspirations, though it would really make no sense to have a university withdraw acceptance because of that. Well, in my world. I'm guessing that something about financial aid will fall through and she'll still end up at Hearst.

Hrm to the revelations re: the Casablancas bros. I suppose that's why they're in the credits? They really aren't doing much at all.

The Logan-Wallace stuff was somewhat interesting, but not enough. Ditto with Wallace and Jackie. I wonder if we'll ever get to see more of Alicia and Wallace's dad? I like Wallace! They need to do more with him!

2x19 Nevermind the Buttocks

Yay, interesting episode! Before going into things like the plot thickening and Duncan being mentioned again and the wonderful appearance of Mac, I would like to address and extremely, extremely important issue:

Why was I not warned about the cute rat death?!?!?! WOE!! I am traumatized!

*ahem* Not that anyone is really obliged to warn me of rat deaths. But I saw Weevil picking up the rather plump rat by the tail (so not nice to the poor rat), and I was all, "Awwwwwww, rattie!!" and saw the little rat's cute, fat white tummy, which makes the rat look just like Fitz-rat. And then Weevil fed it to the snake and I had to avert my eyes from the screen and shudder through the woeful squeaking.

Somehow, I suspect other people do not find this quite as traumatic.

Um, right, now that that important issue is out of the way...

The further greying of Weevil! Weevil returns to the PCHers! Well, sort of. Also, Kendall's role in the plot is finally expanded, making her something more than a boring trophy wife who has a lot of sex. And the Fitzpatricks!

I think my very, very favorite scene was Keith getting in the car with Veronica and Veronica showing him the bullets in the ashtray, and his proud, proud smile. I love the Mars family, I do. It's that, and the fact that Veronica will call her dad when she's in over her head, that he knows what to do and doesn't question her then, even though he might later on.

Also, I adore Keith bragging about his sleuthing prowess to Veronica.

oops! I actually saw that scene and cringed for you. I meant to warn you but thought you had already seen it

though it would really make no sense to have a university withdraw acceptance because of that

I think the idea was that Angie is competition for the Kane scholarship, and after the amazing disappearing Veronica college fund act, that's just as important as the acceptance.
