Oh, that's so interesting, re: original canon! CB and I were talking about it, since he started watching Sherlock as well, and he says it's really neat how Sherlock has an incredibly romantic/sexual tension between its Holmes and Watson whereas Elementary is incredibly good at doing the platonic thing. Despite being a diehard XF shipper in the day, I hope the show continues down the platonic thing with Watson and Holmes.
I read "A Study in Scarlet" after watching, but there's not much Holmes-worship there yet? I guess? Do they get very close later on? (And is it worth reading more?)
I really like that JLM's Holmes is very clearly not right all the time, even if he is brilliant, and I love that his brilliance doesn't excuse stuff, and that things really get to him even when he pretends he is all rational all the time.
