Can one watch this without having followed Avatar: The Last Avatar?

I have been wanting to watch A:TLA, but haven't gotten around to it yet. But this sounds interesting, so I'm wondering if it would be better to wait til after I manage to see A:TLA, or if it can be watched on its own?
