I do like Tumblr a lot but man, it can be really hard to keep up. The frenzy has calmed down but that weekend where the premiere was up on KorraNation was nuts.
And oh, I don't disagree with you. I definitely agree that Mako's character design was meant to appeal to the Zuko fangirls. I know Mike & Bryan introduced him as "he's similar to Zuko but without all the angst!" at that SDCC panel a couple years ago. (Although... as my fandom circle on Tumblr has pointed out: If you remove all the angst from Zuko, all you're left with is the awkwardness and dorkery!)
