I saw about half of the live-action movie, but it seemed more focused on the horror aspect rather than the vaguely spooky and numinous aspects that I associate more with the mushi, so I stopped watching halfway through.

Well, that, and I was watching with my mom in the room and she was giving me some really weird looks.
