Hrm. I generally do tend to go with education as the solution to ignorance and misinformation because I often default to the academic stance. But. I think the solution isn't as easy as simply replacing misinformation with the right information, especially when there's already so much disagreement as to what "right" information actually is.
I want a more thorough overturning of the current system so that the people who are being hurt by both misinformation and having knowledge about them disseminated against their will are put at the center. So that they are the ones making the call as to what is the right information about them and what information they want other people to have and what they want to keep to themselves and what they want to not pass on at all.
Theoretically I do think knowledge is value neutral. But because it is always in context and always created and consumed within power structures, I don't ever think it is value neutral in real life. Like Mely says, we already privilege knowledge for certain groups like corporations and nation-states. And more and more, I feel that changing the structure to put the most vulnerable at the center must come before figuring out what knowledge to disseminate and how to do it, otherwise, we just end up with people in power talking about disempowered people to other people in power.
