Fullmetal Alchemist, ep. 08-10
Girl thief!!!! Girl thief who is not simply doing it for the charity of others and is all grey!!!!
Ahem.
I continue to get sucked into FMA, mostly thanks to episode 7 and 8 combined. Man, I love the harshness of this show, how Nina's death is in the end unavenged and hidden, and Edward and Alphonse can't do a thing about it. Also, the serial killer was creepy. Ed getting out of control and Alphonse finally holding him back could have been dramatic but not cliche-breaking, but I enjoyed how Ed is terrified of dying, of really realizing that he can, probably for the first time. I also lthink part of his shock is the realization that he will kill to save his own life and think nothing of it. I also like how his first success, so to speak, is something that is not at all heroic from the way the viewer (or Ed) sees it, and is instead a failure on his part, morally.
Alas, Winry has nothing to do but be the damsel in distress. She continues to remind me of Kaylee, which is good. I still have hopes for her.
And Roy continues to be a manipulative bastard, which is why I love him. I keep thinking Hawkeye could turn out to be interesting as well, but we'll see.
Scar guy continues to confuse me.
Aaaand... episode 9 is mostly a blur in my head. Edward is being sneaky and doing good for the town, yes yes, nice state alchemist, yes yes. Entertaining, but fairly standard stuff. And then we're finally back to where we started, and why in the world didn't they just start with the flashback anyway? The episodes with the bird girl weren't really very interesting at all, plus, I wanted to constantly bash bird girl on the head for stupidity. Bringing people back from the dead is a Bad Thing! I know this! I have watched Buffy!
Which brings us to episode 10 and Psiren and eeeeeeeee girl thief of dubious morality yay! Why yes indeed, I wanted to be Catwoman when I was a kid. Sometimes I think I may have grown up with some not quite ordinary role models...
Every so often I forget Edward is only 15 and Al is only 14, considering what they're doing and what they're going through. I have nothing much besides squeeing and laughter for episode 10, and I like that Alphonse is something like an incurable optimist who always wants to believe the best in human nature, whereas Ed has to grudgingly accept that and is quickly disillusioned. Al is so cute ^_^. I also hope Clara/Psiren shows up again, because coolness! Also, she has a philosopher's stone? I don't think I was making up that little glimpse of it...
Hrm, I need a good FMA icon now...

I adore Hawkeye. We don't see as much of her as we do of Roy, but I really like what we do see.
Scar turns out to be VERY interesting.
With the exception of Hawkeye and possibly Lust, I don't think you've met any of the most interesting and nontraditional female characters yet. There's another female soldier, for instance, who has a relatively small role but whom I love to pieces.
Please keep posting on FMA! I'm re-watching it here in Kyoto.

And I'm really hoping Hawkeye gets more screen time! She reminds me of my favorite character from Gundam Wing (Noin).
And mmmm, I am waiting eagerly for Lust to show up again.
There will probably be much more FMA spam as soon as I watch more!

Lust is very significant-- she may get the most screen time of any of the Deadly Sins-- well, it's definitely either her or one or two of the others.
Hawkeye is mostly quietly competent in the background, but she does get some very cool scenes.
