Veronica Mars 3x04 Charlie Don't Surf

I was half interested and half not, and not really minding the episode until the stupid portrayal of feminists as feminazis came along and reared its ugly head, at which point I averted my eyes out of discomfort.

I hate that the show keeps shoving Veronica between the frat boys/sororities etc. and the feminist protestors; despite Veronica saying she sympathizes with them, I feel like the show is consistently portraying both sides as being unreasonable, and the feminists as being very unreasonable and over-the-top. I cannot even begin to say how much I don't appreciate that.

Ugh.

So that pretty much ruined the entire episode for me.

Otherwise, Logan angsts and I roll my eyes over his angst, Logan and Veronica act like a cute couple and I roll my eyes and ignore them. Dick is a dick again, and I want to slap him on the side of the head. Keith has a weird case with very strange romantic undertones (what was up with the pizza?). Also, was that actress the person who played Kitty way back when in Pretty Woman?

Um. Yeah. I mean, I was entertained, and I will keep watching until the feminist plotline gets so out of hand that I start throwing things at the television, but none of the mysteries seem meaty enough.

It's bugging me re: the rape victims as well as the feminists. There's a fine line between being sympathetic to irrational reactions in the wake of trauma, and implying that all rape victims who aren't Veronica are irrational and vengeful and should be gently ignored. Or maybe not even that fine of a line.

Clearly the budget only allowed for a certain amount of nuance and variation, and it was used up on the sorority.

I am also really annoyed by how Parker consistently refers to Veronica thinking she had consensual sex to Veronica thinking she was a slut, and that Veronica responded by saying that she was raped and people thought she was a slut too.

A woman who has consensual sex is not a slut!

Lord, yes, and yes to the contrasting of Parker and Veronica. Grr, as they say. Arrgh.
