Wow, that sounds horrible. >.< My sister's doing her PhD in Ithaca, I don't know if she'd encountered that before in NYcity... I am thinking of visiting her and going to look there, and I can tell you if people try to speak RandomChineseAsianLanguage at me, I'll speak to them in a British accented English right back. >.>
I look out for Asians all the time. It's... so strange, to be in a huge sea of white people, that it's just... I can find myself counting on one hand the number of Indians I see, which is actually a lot of less then the number of East Asians I see!
And the worst part is that there are so few SEAsians around (not that we're very distinctive from the East Asians or Indians)... a lot of my own slang just gains me blank looks from the Chinese people.
