Found your journal on a search for connections between the two stories-sorry if this seems random

The original Gojyo, from Journey to the West, had settled on Earth after being thrown out of heaven on the charge of murder. His title there was 'Curtain-raising General'. 'Kenren' seems to be a literal translation of that.
