Wow. They ripped my heart out and tore it to shreds and I loved every second of it.

They killed my boy! *sobs* I was so scared they were going to kill Wes, and I thought they were going to do it, but I didn't actually think it, you know?

I loved so much of this. Loved Spike and how his day included hard core drinking as well as a poetry slam (with the FFL poem too!!) and how that was just like Spike. Loved that Anne came back and Gunn got to see his people again. Really loved Angel trying to help Connor with his resume "You girl!"

Small things, like Spike waving his hand when Angel said that someone would betray him, and then Angel singling out Wesley, because really, what could be more fitting?

Was floored by the final scene with Lorne and Lindsey.

Loved Connor showing up once more to help his dad fight the good fight. Loved that the show didn't shy away from the ambiguous at the end, with Angel basically lying to Lindsey and betraying him and his bald assertion that he killed Drogyn. And broke my heart over Wes' final moments with Illyria, and the "Lie to me."

Loved that they didn't show any part of Illyria's fight scene, just her in the headlights, then a shot of the totalled car. Also loved the shot of her punching Vail in the head.

And Gunn! Old school vamp-hunter Gunn!

Angry at the WB for their thanks for watching thing at the end. Yeah, well, I would still be watching had you not cancelled my fricking show!!

And Angel signed away his shanshu *sniff*. I gasped at that, and am so pleased that I just watched To Shanshu in LA again this afternoon. Then thinking about TSILA again made me sad because all the really old school AI gang is dead -- Doyle, Cordy, Wes. All down.

I wrote before in a post on Chosen that Chosen was the perfect finale for Buffy because Buffy was about free will, was about the freedom to choose, to overturn destiny, to rewrite fate. And this was so perfect for Angel because Angel's not about that. Angel isn't just that you're not sure everything's going to turn out all right -- Angel is about knowing that things are going to turn out badly, that everything you love will be stripped away from you, that happiness is the brief lull before the storm. Angel is about knowing that and fighting anyway, in the face of all odds, in the face of almost certain defeat.

I miss my show already.

Too right; and on your final comments also. It's about fighting when there's no light at the end of the tunnel. Why I like it. Well, part of it anyway.

A hearty Yes! to everything you said. And Spike's comment about denying Angel three times got a snicker out of me.

The ending was perfectly in line with the themes of the show--that the fight never ends, that it doesn't matter if you never win, that you keep doing the right thing just because. But of course it was irritating that we never find out if they all die, even though it looked like they probably would. It's the sort of thing where they're dead until the sequel, if there is a sequel. You wouldn't happen to know if there were any sequel rumors?

Maybe I waited too long to access it?

There's a great quote in [livejournal.com profile] melymbrosia's journal that I thought summed up the difference between the two series quite nicely:

katie_m said it better: "Angel says to me that there can be grace even in darkness; Buffy says to me that that you can get a damn generator and turn the lights on."
